Beauty Buys: La Roche-Posay & Real Techniques

La Roche-Posay - Effaclar Duo - Corrective and Unclogging Anti-Imperfection Care - 40 ml - £13.00
La Roche-Posay - Toleriane Riche - Soothing Protective Cream - 40 ml - £14.50
Real Techniques - Core Collection Make-up Brushes - £21.99

On Tuesday I finally decided to try the La Roche-Posay skincare range and I headed on a mission to Boots during my lunch break to get few items. I wanted to try the La Roche-Posay products mainly because at present I am dealing with a major breakout on my face which is partially due to stress and lack of sleep. My skin majority of the time is quite clear with the odd spot here and there but I have never had a breakout this bad or for such a prolonged period of time and it's really starting to bug me.

I bought the Effaclar Duo and the Toleriane Riche but I wanted to also buy the Effaclar A.I which is a breakout corrector but I ended up putting it down when I saw the total of my 'quick' lunchtime buys at the till. I should have just bought it as I am now just going to go back and buy it today during my lunch break. I have only used both products twice so I can't really comment on their performance yet but I will put a review up of my thoughts once I have fully used them.

I also bought the Real Techniques Core Collection set of brushes which I have had on my mental wishlist for a little bit. As I have been trying to be good with my spending habits instead of buying  it straight away (as I usually do with things) I held out till the end of the month. I have only used the brushes twice since buying them but I must say I am really impressed with them already.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer - Nova

Rimmel Apocalips - Nova
Swatched on my lips & hand

Last week I bought the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer which were being sold on Facebook before its release in stores earlier this week. I bought Apocalips in the colour Nova which I would describe as a pink with blue undertones. Before receiving my order I had in my mind that it would be very similar to a lipgloss but Apocalips is very pigmented and more like a liquid lipstick with sheen rather than a lipgloss.

'Apocalips Lip Lacquer is an explosive make-up phenomenon that represents the end of colour as you know it. Packed with pure colour pigments, its lusciously creamy, conditioning formula promises a never-before combination of colour, shine and comfort that last and last.' Taken from the Boots website

I am wearing Nova on my lips on its own but I think when I do wear it properly (when not in my pj's) I will try teaming it with a lip liner as a base. I have only had the lip lacquer on for an hour but I have found it to be quite moisturising and not drying as some liquid lipsticks can be. I do find the lip lacquer to be a little streaky on application and after as well. However, I do feel I need to wear the lip lacquer throughout for the duration of the day before I can fully give my opinions of the wear and finish on my lips. That being said to those that are interested I would recommend trying Apocalips as it is a very good quality product for a drug store brand and the pigmentation is very impressive too.

Yes, I am wearing my pj's in this pic with no make up on either but the lip lacquer lol

Essie - Off The Shoulder

The colour I am currently wearing on my nails at the moment is Off The Shoulder by Essie. I bought it when I did a little Essie nail polish haul back in November from Fragrance Direct at such a bargain price of £1.99 considering they normally retail at £7.99.

Essie - Off The Shoulder
Essie describes the colour as 'a bold, hot pink'

I have a 'thing' for pink nail polishes and I find that I have so many of them in various shades. Despite this I really love this shade of pink and I have worn Off The Shoulder a few times since buying it. It has become my go to colour when I want to do nails my nails quickly as it usually takes me ages to decide on a colour to paint my nails.

Diptyque Scented Candle - Baies

As far as I can remember I have always been a candle lover much to my mothers despair (she fears I will burn the house down). When I was at uni I used to buy tonnes of the Ikea scented candles and burn them all the time but with time I have moved away from the "basic" candles and have started to venture out a little bit. So after a recommendation from fellow candle enthusiasts I was pointed in the direction of Diptyque. Yes I know it's all over the blogsphere at the moment but I like to take my time before I jump on a bandwagon. I have never had the opportunity to go out and smell any of the Diptyque scents so had to rely on suggestions and research until I finally decided to choose Baies.

Dipytque Scented Candle - Baies (Berries)
£20 - Mini Candle 90g

Diptyque describes Baies as a "A bouquet of roses and blackcurrent leaves. I am not great at describing how things smell but all I know is it smells florally and it leaves my room and house (if I leave my door open) smelling very refreshing.

I opted for the mini version in case I didn't like the scent when it arrived but I now wish I had bought the big larger size instead. The price for the larger size which is 190g is £40 and the 90g is £20. £20 or even £40 is not a price I would normally pay for a candle but trust me it was money well spent. I will definitely be buying more Diptyque candles and Freesia and Mimosa are next on my list to try. I would also like to try Neom & Jo Malone candles next.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil & Velvet Gloss Pencil

I have been meaning to try the NARS Matte Lip Pencils for ages but I always forget to go to a NARS counter to try on the colours when I am out shopping. I finally ended up giving in and buying both the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil online hoping that the colours I chose would look ok on me (and luckily they do).

I have heard great things about the Dragon Girl shade of the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil but after looking online I decided to opt for Cruella instead as it seemed more like a brick red which I find suits me more when I wear red lipstick. I also decided to buy the Velvet Gloss Pencil in More mainly because I was curious how a gloss lip pencil actually works and because I have a thing for nude lips are they are an easy everyday option.

NARS Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella - £17.50
NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in More - £17.50
NARS Sharpener - £5

Mulberry Bayswater in Foxglove Pink

This post is very overdue but in November I attended the Mulberry Sample sale at the Music Rooms near Bond Street. Considering I had a Mulberry Bayswater on my birthday wishlist in October I knew exactly what I wanted before I got there. Prior to this I had never been to a sample sale before and did not know what to expect but I decided to get to the venue about an hour early which meant I was very close to the front of the queue. Let me tell you before the doors opened the queue had reached lengths I had never seen before and I was glad to have gotten there early. After looking at what was on offer in the sample sale I ended up choosing the following three colours in the Bayswater to choose from (pictured below).

After spending a long time trying to decide what colour to buy I chose the bronze colour only to be then  told that the bronze colour wears off quite quickly. As I knew I would probably use my bag quite often I decided against the bronze and chose the fuchsia colour (Foxglove Pink) instead. (Considering that the colour Bayswater I had on my birthday wishlist was a bright red/orange colour I should have went with the fuchsia first). I also bought the passport cover in the same colour and finish as my bag.

Mulberry Bayswater Foxglove Pink -  Croc Nappa Leather | Mulberry Passport Cover Foxglove - Croc Nappa Leather

The inside of the bag is very lush as it has a suede finish to it which feels very nice and it is also a fuchsia colour. I was really excited after buying my Mulberry bag mainly because I had been wanting to get one for over a year but luckily at 30% off the original retail price.

Oh btw I was slightly naughty last week and I ended up buying another Mulberry bag....I will put up a post when I take pics of it.

William Curley Dessert Bar

Last Sunday I met up with a few friends for an overdue catch before the end of the year at The William Curley Dessert Bar at the Belgravia branch. The plan was to try out the four course dessert menu but as we got there quite late they had ran out of some of the ingredients and only got a two course dessert. Despite this I have to say that what we had was absolutely amazing with each course served up by the chef herself.

1. The Menu (which changes weekly)
2. Chocolate & Walnut Crumble with Prune & Armagnac Ice Cream (I hate nuts & prunes but this was actually really nice)
3. Spicy Pineapple PainPerdu with Tropical Sorbet (This was AMAZING!!! I could have had a few more plates of it)

We also ended up at Busaba Eathai in Chelsea for dinner afterwards despite having our desserts first. I have already planned to go again as I have to try out the four course dessert menu in all its glory so expect to see pictures again ;)
