Hair: Box Braids

Hi guys, yes I know it has been ages since I have blogged properly. What can I say I had a great summer and there was just not enough time to blog. However I hope to get back in to the swing of things very soon.

In the meantime for those of you that don't follow me on Instagram I wanted to show you my current hairstyle. I am currently rocking box braids which I never thought I would ever see on me as I had always sworn that I would never wear them. The main reason was that I just thought they never suited me but after randomly deciding to get them I love they way they look on me. The braids are not as heavy as I thought they would be as that was another reason why I was a bit sceptical to try them.

I Heart Sunglasses

I am addicted to many things in life one of my many addictions are sunglasses. I have so many of them but I am forever buying more to add to my collection. I just recently went on a 5 night holiday to Ibiza (more to come about that later) and I took 13 pairs of sunglasses with me. Yes you read that right 13 pairs! (bows head in shame).

Anyway a few months back I managed to buy 7 pairs of sunglasses in the space of 2 days. Peep the pic below to see my buys.

Wireless Festival: Day 3

This follow up post to my last one (a week later). Last week Sunday I attended the third and final day of Wireless Festival. Like the Friday it was a great day again but this time it was a lot more packed out with people. Before arriving to the festival I managed to break my toe (don't ask how...lol) but being the stubborn person I am I blocked it out, got my sister to put my toe back in place (I have never felt pain like that before) and then I put on my converses and danced all day until at about 11pm when I realised that probably wasn't a good idea. (I am now limping with a swollen toe & foot that will take 6-8 weeks to heal).

Outfit:
Shorts - Topshop 'Acid Wash Denim Hotpants' | Top - River Island | Sunglasses - Topshop | Converses

Sunday was the hottest day that weekend and I really was feeling the heat, I felt like I was going to pass out  especially when we were in the smaller tent waiting for 2 Chainz to come on. Heat and broken toe aside I managed to have a great time and it definitely got us excited for our holiday and next festival.

Wireless Festival: Day 1

I attended the Yahoo Wireless Festival on Friday and Sunday just gone and had such a great time with my friends. We had scorching temperatures in the UK over the weekend which was great for the festival despite the fact that I dont do to well in the sun (I literally melt and get so hot and bothered).

Day 1 - Friday
The main acts we saw on Day one were Justin Timberlake (who surprised us with a guest appearance from Jay Z for the Suit & Tie song), Snoop Dog, John Legend, Trey Songz and Miguel. I have to admit I was very surprised at how good Snoop Dog's performance was and he played a lot of his old classics as well as some new stuff and he had such a great energy.

We had so much fun on Friday with lots of dancing and as you can see I even managed to fit in an outfit change into the pink kimono. This was not planned but my friend had a massive bag of never ending supplies and being me I just couldn't resist the outfit change lol.

OOTD: Shoreditch Sundays

This post of an outfit I wore a few weeks ago whilst out and about around Shoreditch / Brick Lane on what was a very hot Sunday. My friend and I first went for brunch at The Breakfast Club where I was very naughty and opted for a big breakfast including pancakes rather than something healthy. After fuelling up on a massive amount of food we then spent the rest of the day around the Brick Lane area where I have always loved to spend time at on a Sunday.

Outfit:
Dress - ASOS | Denim Gilet - Primark | Bag - H&M | Heeled Sandals - Office | Sunglasses - Topshop

Illamasqua Haul

Powder Blush - Excite - £18 | Lipstick - ESP - £16.50 | Skin Base Foundation - no. 15 - £27
Matt Primer - £22.50 | UV Glow Nail Varnish - Geist - £13 | Intense Lipgloss - Boost - £14.50

Last month I bought a few items from Illamasqua (which fast becoming one of my favourite brands) especially because their stuff is always so highly pigmented. The blush in Excite is amazing! and well suited for my brown skin tone. Don't be scared by the colour in the above photo (for some reason it came up brighter on my camera) but it's a "vivid" apricot colour which will look gorgeous on brown to dark skin tones as it stands out nicely without being too overbearing. You can sweep the colour very gently on your cheeks for a subtle flush of colour or build up the colour without any caking.

I also bought ESP which is a "vivid violet" lipstick with a matte finish. ESP has a slight pink undertone to it which is noticeable when worn on the lips, this makes the colour look less cooler than it looks and a bit more easier to wear for me. I really love the purple shade of ESP but I find that the texture is so drying and its very difficult to get the colour onto the lips without dragging the skin. However, I am willing to overlook this as I really like the colour and I now wear ESP with a layer of a mix of pink and burgundy lip liner underneath to make it more wearable and and I also use a lip balm before any colour to help make it less drying for me.

After reading so many good reviews on the Skin Base foundation I also decided to give that a try alongside their Matt Primer as I have such oily skin and I am on the hunt for a primer that can tame my skin during the sumer months without my make up sliding off my face lol. The Skin Base Foundation I got is in no. 15 and it  is comparable to MAC's NC50 shade which I found out by using their handy online comparison chart. The UV Glow Polich topcoat was a spur of the moment buy that I thought would be a great novelty item for my upcoming holiday to Ibiza next month.

MAC RiRi Boy Lipstick

Hi guys, I just got a delivery of my Rihanna RiRi Boy lipstick which I ordered from MAC on Thursday and I wanted to show you a quick glimpse of what it looks like on my skin.

The RiRi Boy lipstick colour is described as a "matte vivid lavender" which is in a retro matte finish. On first inspection I think it's quite similar to Up the Amp by MAC without the gloss/sheen finish it has. I like the colour as it is on my lips but I think I will also try mixing it with some of my darker purple lipsticks and lip liners to experiment with the colour.

MAC Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick

Sometime back in March I bought MAC's Candy Yum-Yum lipstick which was much sought after at the time. I didn't have the lipstick on my radar at the time but after spotting it in store I decided to buy it on an impulse buy to add to my growing hot pink lipstick collection.

MAC Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick - £14
Candy Yum-Yum worn in natural lighting
Candy Yum-Yum is a very bright hot pink matte lipstick with blue undertones and it is highly pigmented. I do find that on my skin tone it comes out slightly chalky looking on my lips but when I pair it with a slightly darker hot pink/fuchsia lip liner it helps to make it a lot wearable. Whenever I wear Candy Yum-Yum I use NYX Fuchsia lip liner where I firstly line my lips and then fill in my whole lips with the lip liner before wearing the lipstick on top of it.

This is a great shade to be worn during Spring/Summer and will add an instant uplift to any outfit.

MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick

A couple of weeks ago I made the impulse decision to buy the limited edition RiRi Woo lipstick Rihanna was releasing in conjunction with MAC. When I first saw the images of the lipstick before it's release I wasn't at all interested but I am glad that I bought it on impulse when it was released in the UK.

RiRi Woo Lipstick

The RiRi Woo lipstick was inspired by MAC's Ruby Woo which is a classic matte red lipstick which practically everyone in the world owns and loves. I on the other hand haven't had great luck with Ruby Woo and I have not worn it for years despite having it both in my make up collectipn and make up kit. RiRi Woo is very similar to Ruby Woo especially when looking at it in the packaging however when swatched there is a very slight difference between the two lipsticks. RiRi Woo has a slightly darker undertone to it but it's not that noticeable. I on the other hand notice this very minute difference and appreciate it as I think it works well with my skin tone.

I never keep up with any of MAC's collections as I am not too fussed with limited edition items however I am now eager to get my hands on a few other items from the Rihanna collaboration especially the Heaux & RiRi Boy lipsticks.

White Dress

For the bank holiday weekend last week I went out partying with a friend and here is the outfit I wore.  I wore a dress I bought last minute from Mango which is in a blazer style with a gold metal latch at the front as the only detail to it. For the first time in ages I actually spent time when putting on my make up and I even wore false lashes which I haven't worn in years as I usually hate wearing them.

Dress - Mango | Shoes - Zara | Clutch - Zara | Gold/Silver Necklace - Zara

A close up of my make up, unfortunately it isn't a very clear picture but some of the products I remember using were:

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h Foundation
Hourglass - Veil Mineral Primer
Ben Nye - Banana Powder (used only under eyes)
NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil - Cruella
Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Blush - Pinch Me

All Silver Everything

Silver Heeled Sandals - Zara | Silver Sequinned Clutch - Zara

Whilst on a shopping trip on Good Friday I noticed this silver sequinned clutch which I knew would instantly go with my silver heeled sandals Zara that I got last month (see this post). I absolutely love how the clutch and sandals compliment each other and I even got the chance to wear the combo on Sunday on a night out.

My Hot Pink Lipstick Collection

Mac Lipstick (Matte) - Candy Yum Yum | NARS Satin Lip Pencil - Yu | NARS Pure Matte Lipstick - Carthage | Illamasqua Lipstick (Matte) - Eurydice

NYX Matte Lipstick - Sweet Pink | Sleek True Colour Lipsick (Sheen) - Fuschia | Sleek True Colour Lipstick (Sheen) - Candy Cane | MAC Lipstick (Amplified) - Girl About Town

For the past two months I have been on the hunt the perfect hot pink matte lipstick which has led me on a very dangerous lipstick buying spree. The first picture are all lipsticks I have bought recently. Candy Yum Yum, Carthage and Eurydice all matte lipsticks which all look very different when worn on my lips. Candy Yum Yum is very bright but works well when I wear it with a slightly darker hot pink lip liner underneath it. The NARS Yu pencil on the other hand has a sheen to it and is part of the new NARS Satin Lip pencil range which I absolutely love. I only bought it on Friday along with the NARS Carthage lip pencil and I can already tell they will both be on regular rotation this summer.

The second picture are all lipsticks I have had in my lipstick collection but have neglected over the years. Apart from Sweet Pink by NYX they all have a sheen to them and are all wearable on my skintone. Red lipstick has always been my staple lip colour as its very classic but I think hot pink is now will now be rivalling my red lipstick.

Beauty Buys: Lancome

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H - No. 11 (Muscade) - £27.50 from Debenhams
Lancome Hypnose Mascara Set - w/ Mini Le Crayon Kohl & Bi-Facil (30ml) - £22 from Debenhams
Lancome Bi-Facil (125ml) - £17.95 from CheapSmells (RRP £21)

I bought the first two items in the above picture and got all the items in the below picture free as part of a promotion from Debenhams. I intended to also buy the Bi-Facil as part of my order from Debenhams but found it slightly cheaper on CheapSmells.

This whole order was actually brought on because I recently decided to take the plunge and try foundation after not wearing it since 2009. After going to many counters I decided on a sample of Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H and wore it for a week before taking the plunge to buy it. So far I have no complaints from the foundation but I will put up a review once I have had time to wear it properly.

I had no intention of buying the Hypnose mascara set but I couldn't resist the buy two items from Lancome and get a free gift offer on the Debenhams website, Ooops. I also bought the Bi-Facil after it being on my wish list for about two months and so far I can say it is a great eye makeup remover, considering I have very sensitive eyes that sting when I put anything on them.

Tonique Doucer (Toner) | Galateis Doucer (Facial Cleanser) | Hydra Zen Neurocalm (Moisturising Day Cream) | Genifique (Youth Activating Concentrate) | Visonnaire (Advanced Skin Corrector) | Juicy Tubes | Hynose Star Mascara | Foundation Brush | Lip Brush | Make Up Bag (not pictured)

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick - Luscious Pink #23

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick - Luscious Pink #23 - £24.50
(Bought from here)

I bought this YSL Rouge Volupte in Luscious Pink lipstick back in 2011 as part of a birthday treat to myself and since then it has been an absolute fave lippie of mine. The packaging of Rouge Volupte lipsticks are very simple but glamorous with the gold finish which is mainly part of my attraction to the brand. YSL describe Luscious Pink as a 'muted rose', which when worn it comes out like a pinkish nude on me. This colour is I wear it practically everyday as it's such an easy colour to wear.

The Rouge Volupte lipsticks are super creamy and are a dream to apply to the lips but I do find that the wear of the lipsticks are not that great and I do have to reapply it quite a few times during the day. However, as I am a sucker for the YSL beauty products I am happy to overlook that. Considering that I wear this colour daily and reapply quite a few times during the day I have found that the lipstick has lasted me a very long time and I still haven't reached the bottom yet.
Luscious Pink swatched on my hand
The Rouge Volupte lipsticks are definitely a luxury item as it is quite expensive for a lipstick priced at £24.50 each (it was £22 back when I bought it). However, I do think the positives of the product outwigh the expensive price, such as it being pigmented and very creamy. It's one of those things that I am happy to spend money on as a treat to myself once in a while and I cant wait to get another colour to add to my tiny collection which currently stands at two Rouge Volupte's.

What's in Your Pocket? - Life's 'Little Wins'

I was recently contacted by the MoneySupermarket to take part in the what's in your pocket? blogger challenge. The concept of the challenge is about enjoying the feeling of life's 'little wins' such as finding a £20 note in the pocket of an old item of clothing. Now who doesn't love finding money you didn't know you lost? I know I do. To the extent that I have been known to get excited at finding a £1 coin in the pocket of a coat I haven't worn for ages (trust me it's the little things in life that make me happy). So when the MoneySupermarket gave me £20 to spend on whatever made me happy, I was more than excited.

Last week I decided to take my 'little win' straight to Zara. I am sure you guys have figured out that I absolutely LOVE Zara and nothing makes me more happier than going to Zara and leaving with new items for my wardrobe and this occasion was no different. I stalk Zara's website every other day and I had my eye on these shoes for about 2 weeks so I was more than happy to spend my 'little win' on them even if I did go over budget by £19.99 (oops!).

I love the detail on the shoes

I can't wait to put these babies on for a night out on the town, now I just need to find an outfit to wear them with.

NARS Velevet Matte Lip Pencil - Cruella

As promised in this post last month I said I would put up a picture of me wearing my NARS buys. Today's face is featuring the Velvet Matte Lip  Pencil I bought in Cruella. Since buying this lip pencil it has quickly become my favourite red colour to wear competing with my other favourite Russian Red by MAC. Cruella is described by NARS as a "Passionate scarlet red". I would describe Cruella as a brick red perfect for everyday wear.

The lip pencil is shaped as a jumbo pencil not to be mistaken for a lip liner. The large shape & size of the pencil makes application to the lips easy and I find that the product just glides onto my lips with so much ease. I absolutely love how the lip pencil manages to be a matte colour but not drying on the lips which sometimes is hard to find with matte finishes. The wear of the lip pencil is also great as I find that I only really reapply it twice during the course of the day. For example, I put it on in the morning before work and I usually only need reapply it after work; keeping in mind that I am drinking numerous cups of tea and eating non-stop during the day. I tend to put on a lip liner (L.A. Colors - Forever Red) before applying the lip pencil but you really dont need to do this as the lip pencil is good enough to be worn on it's own.

(wearing the lip pencil)

My negatives about the lip pencil firstly is about the sharpening process, I feel I loose a bit of product when sharpening the pencil which wouldnt happen with a lipstick and it also gets all messy in the sharpener making it hard to clean. Another point is the lid never stays on the pencil, it always pops off. I have no idea why but it is annoying as sometimes I find the contents of my make up bag covered in stains by the lip pencil. Other than this, I really cannot get enough of this pencil and I would recommend everyone to try out the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils if you haven;t done so already, you won't be disappointed.

Illamasqua Buys - I'mPerfection Collection

Last week I bought Illamasqua's Powder Blusher Duo 3, the Blush Up Brush and Eurydice Lipstick, two of which are from their new I'mPerfection collection which is aimed at women celebrating our 'imperfections' and highlighting it through the use of make up.

I was immediately drawn to their new blush brush and it's unique shape and thought it would be a great to use with their new blusher duo to contour and highlight. The blusher duo 3 consists of two colours: Beg & Bronzerella. Beg is described as a 'dusky rose' colour and Bronzerella is a 'Copper Bronze'. I haven't attempted to use the blusher brush yet but my first impression with regards to the quality and the texture of the brush is good. The texture is very soft just like any other Illamasqua brushes.

I have also been on the hunt for the perfect bright pink matte lipstick and after searching online I opted for Eurydice by Illamasqua. Don't be fooled by the above picture Eurydice is a very bright fuchsia pink which isn't for the faint hearted. I have only worn it once since buying it and I must say it was the focal point of my make up. Once I get a good quality picture of it on I will put it up with my thoughts.

Zara Sales Haul

Last month I indulged in the Zara sales a little bit too much, when the sale went up online at midnight on boxing day I bought like a million items. I then ordered a few times after that in January but to my defence a lot of the items I bought were to update my work wardrobe as it is currently looking quite abysmal.

Here are my favourite picks from my massive haul (I didn't put all the items):

Red Quilted Bag                          Leopard Print Blouse

Leopard Print Dress                    Peplum Leopard Prink Skirt

Camoflaugue Print Blouse                                 Plum Crepe Peplum top

Denim Shirt                                                    Polka Dot Print Blouse

I hope not to visit Zara for a long while but if I am being honest that never works especially when I get a looksie of their Spring Collection. I really think Zara should a loyalty reward system or something because I am one of their number one customers ;-)
