A few weeks ago Argos sent me some hair straighteners
to try out; the Babyliss Pro 235 Styler. I must say it couldn’t have come at a
perfect time as I you all know I have my hair short at the moment but just this
weekend I went even shorter and opted for a pixie cut. These straighteners are
just perfect for my now even shorter hair, as the plates are not too big so they
allow you to straighten even the shortest bits of hair as well as long hair.
The straighteners have 20 temperature settings and heat
up very fast. As I have quite thick Afro Caribbean hair I assumed my hair would
need the highest setting but after using the straighteners I found out that
they are hot enough to straighten any type of hair and that I was able to use
it nowhere near the highest setting.
Titanium ceramic plates
Up to 235 celsius
15 second heat up
20 temperature settings
Auto shut off
Whilst using the straighteners I have noticed that they
feel a lot smoother when gliding my hair through the plates. I have previously
owned different types of straighteners before but there is a difference that I instantly
notice when using them. (I am not a hair pro but I am assuming it has something
to do with the titanium-ceramic plates).
Another pro for me when it comes to these
straighteners is the fuchsia colour. I am not really a girly girl but I always seem
to be drawn to fuchsia/pink accessories. I was recently on holiday and these straighteners came along with me and became part of my everyday hair routine staple. Now I can’t wait to start using them
to experiment with my new pixie cut, I might try some sexy flicks next.
Hey guys, I just wanted to wish you a (belated) Merry Christmas. I hope you all have a great day yesterday regardless of how you chose to spend it.
I know I promised that I would blog whilst away on holiday but I guess the sunshine & beautiful beaches stopped me from doing that and to top it off I got back from my holiday on Sunday really sick (I always seem to come back from my holiday's with a cold, bug etc). Anyway I had a great time away and I will post pictures in a separate post once I get the time.
Earlier last month I decided to take the plunge and buy my first cream blush. I knew instantly that I wanted to try Illamasqua's cream blushers but I wasn't sure what colour to try but after a bit of researching on the net I decided on Seduce.
Illamasqua describe seduce as a 'warm rose pink, with a dewy finish'. I have to agree with that description as its a gorgeous rosey pink that works well on my skin tone. Before purchasing it I thought it wouldn't work well on my skin tone as I could only find swatches of it on fairer skin but I have to say that this shade looks good on, so its definitely women of colour friendly too.
I must admit I have been very scared of trying cream blushers before as my face is quite oily and I thought that I would just end up looking like a hot greasy mess but this was actually not the case. As described Seduce gives a dewy finish and not an oily one. I would put it in the morning and by the end of the day (9pm) it would still be on only having worn off a little bit. I am really impressed with the wear of this product as I am not the type person that has the time to re-apply things like blusher during the day and especially during the working week.
Seduce swatched on my hand
I bought the Real Techniques Stippling brush to use with cream blushers and it works perfectly with cream blushers. All I do is lightly dip my brush in the blusher then dab a bit off on my hand before very lightly adding it to my cheeks circular motion. Trust me a little goes a very long way with this blusher. If you do find you've put too much blush on by mistake I like to get my powder brush and lightly brush a little powder over it to tame the brightness of the blush.
Here's a pic of me wearing Seduce, I love that the colour gives my cheeks a warm flush of pink.
Monday was my blog's 3rd birthday and I can't believe I forgot it. But with being occupied with a hectic few weeks at work & uni assignments I had to take a break from blogging for a little bit, now I am free until after Christmas woohoo!!
As always I just want to say a BIG thank you to all my followers and to those that read my blog, it really means a lot to me that people actually take time out to read my blog.
I have currently been doing a fair amount of online shopping (I blame it on being ill & cooped up at home with nothing to do). Last week I bought the below Essie nail polishes from Fragrance Direct for a whopping £1.99 each. Bargain or what? Considering they retail for £7.99. Unfortuantely I went back to the site a few days later to order some for my sister but they had sold out on nearly all of the colours (sorry guys).
I know the nail polishes are bright and not in "Season" at the moment but I really don't like to follow rules and I always love a bright nail colour on my nails all year round.
I decided that I would like to try a cream blush for the first time and the Illamasqua Cream Blushers seemed enticed me and because I love Illamasqua make up products as they are very pigmented and work well on all skin tones. I currently do not own that many Illamasqua products (which I hope to soon change) but when I did a make up course at AOFM a few years back we used a lot of Illamasqua make up and I had no complaints at all.
After a bit of research on the net I also bought the Real Techniques Stippling Brush to use with my new cream blush. The L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara is my favourite drugstore mascara (review here) so this was just a repurchase.
Here's what i've been getting up to lately via Instagram. I am addicted to this app and there is rarely a moment when I am not either uploading pics or liking pics of those that I follow.

Nars describe Gina as a 'true tangerine', and on inspection I would say that it looks like more of a matte peachy colour blush with a very smooth finish.
When I first spotted this blush I was a bit sceptical as I thought it may be a bit too light for my skin and make me look ashy but, instead Gina is a blush that allows you to build up colour very easily without making your face look dry or ashy on the medium to darker skin toned ladies.
Gina swatched a few times
I tend to wear Gina when I am wearing a bright/vibrant lipstick such as Rebel as it is a more subtle colour than my other blsuhers and it doesn't over power the face with too much colour. I wear Gina once i've done a very subtle cheek contour with the Sleek Contour Kit (Dark) and then build it up to get the colour to stand out a bit more on my skin tone.
This is my second item from Nars but I must say I am very impressed with their blushers and I hope to try out their other products soon, such as the matte lip pencil in Dragon Girl.
Today for the first time in ages I had spare time whilst getting ready for work in the morning, so I decided to take pictures of my outfit that I compiled together on my bed (as you do lol). I decided to opt for a bright outfit to give a faux sense of 'warmness' despite the weather being freezing and to also warm up my mood as i've been extremely exhausted lately (which weirdly enough kinda worked)
Pic of my outfit minus the black tights
A cheeky toilet mirror pic of my outfit when I got into work.
Last week the weather decided to turn much colder as it awlays does during this time of year but instead of bringing out a 'typical' autumn/winter nail shade to paint my nails I decided to go for Hedonist by Models Own (part of their 2012 Ibiza range). I have always been the type of girl that doens't conform to the norm and prefer bright nails all year round.
I'm not too sure how to describe Hedonist but it is very pinky/neony with a coral tint to it. In some lighting it comes of slightly orange and even red but I assure you that it is not a red or orange shade.
I found the application to be very straightforward and it only required 2 coats and I used a fast drying top coat to dry it quickly and give it an extra added shine.
No matter how many pictures I took or the different lighting I used I just couldn't capture the "neon-ness" of this colour but be assured that this a bright neon colour. Definitely one to be worn on holiday with a tan to compliment it. I will be taking this with me on my upcoming holiday.
I posted this pic on my instragram a few weeks ago of my recent buys. I absolutely love all the items that are pictured below and they are perfect items for Autumn/Winter. I tend to buy a lot of black clothing as I just feel it's fuss free and you can always look good however you dress a black item of clothing. So you'll probably see a lot more buys from me which are all black.
Faux Fur Stole - Zara
Leather Blazer - Zara
Ankle Boots - Ebay
The faux fur stole is so lush & soft and it feels great when worn. It's definitely an item to wear on a night out when you are trying to stay warm but look still look hot at the same time. Next up is the faux leather sleeves blazer which I can already see will get worn many times as well the heeled booties too.
For now I really love my buys but I know I still have more items to get for winter
Seeing as it's my birthday this week I decided to put together my wish list. I have many other things I want which are practically unrealistic such as the Cartier Love Bracelets but decided keep it more realistic considering the average price for one of the Cartier bracelets is £4,350 (a girl can only dream for now lol).
If I am being honest the number ONE thing I want for my birthday is CAKE!! Yes Cake!! Vanilla & strawberry cake that is. I am and have always been a serious cake lover which may have to be shelved since I am now on a gluten-free diet :(
Anyway here's my wish list:
1. Mulberry Bayswater Bag - Since last year I have been searching & "saving" for the perfect luxury leather handbag and at present this one seems to have caught my attention. I just love the bright colour.
2. Links of London Sweetie Bracelet & Sweetie Pie Ring- I am not into silver jewellery at all but I like to wear silver jewellery to work when I am looking "smartish". I always wear my Tiffany's set to work and to be honest i'm fed up of it and I would like to have the Links of London bracelet and ring to replace it.
3. YSL Rogue Volupte Lipsticks
4. YSL Shocking Mascara - I bought this mascara last year on my birthday and fell in love. I have repurchased it a few times since then but I do find it dries out a little too quickly so I need to replace the last one I bought over the summer.
5. Nike Blazer - To be honest I am not a trainers type of girl at all and the only casual/sporty footwear I wear are converses, despite this I have always wanted a pair of Blazers. I must admit that I actually bought myself this exact pair the other day despite asking my sister to buy it for me for my birthday. (I'm so inpatient lol)
I must stop buying turquoise / blue nail polishes...
Models Own - Jade Stone | Barry M - Mint Green | China Glaze - Aquadelic | Barry M - Turquoise | (unknown) | L.A. Colors - Sea Siren | Models Own - Hed Kandi Balearic Cool | Models Own - Top Turquoise | No7 - Minty Fresh | Color Club - Wild Child
I was recently rummaging through my nail polish collection and noticed a recurring colour theme. I have always LOVED turquoise/blue colours on my nails but I didn't realise that I keep buying polishes which are practically the same colour/shade to what I already have. Having said that I dont think I will stop either.
I think it's mainly because I am on the search for the perfect turquoise & blue nail polish. I just need to remember to not buy similar colours, such as the two blue Models Own polishes in the above pic are so similar on my nails it's ridiculous.
Last week Sunday I went to see Teedra Moses (one of my favourite artists) perform at the Jazz Cafe in Camden and this is what I wore. Feeling a little rough from the night before where I went out to celebrate a friends birthday with LOTS of cocktails involved I decided to keep my outfit casual.
I recently bought MAC's Russian Red Lipstick as part of my search for the 'perfect' matte red lipstick and I have finally had the opportunity to wear it a few times. Mac describes Russian red as an 'Instense bluish red'. I find that this shade looks a lot more better on me as Ruby Woo brings out the yellow undertones in my skin which make it look a lot more brighter on my lips.
When I bought Russian Red I didn't try it on in the shop or even swatch it so I was taken back a little when I opened it up and it looked like it had a sheen to it. Considering I am on the hunt for a perfect matte lipstick I was a little disappointed however, after trying it on at home I realised that the slight sheen to it disappears after it is applied to the lips and dries with a matte finish.
(Blurry iphone pic wearing my new 'geeky' style glasses)
I teamed the Russian Red lipstick with my L.A Colors Forever Red lip liner, which I wore to dinner last night and found that it lasted all night even after I was digging into my crab meal lol.
Russian Red compared with Ruby Woo looks quite similar in colour however you can see from the above picture that Russian Red has a sheen to it despite being a matte lipstick. I think this slight moisture to it helps to keep the lips moisturised during the day and it's not as drying as the Ruby Woo lipstick which I have heard is very drying to lips over the course of the day.
I would recommend that anyone who loves Ruby Woo to try Russian Red, if you haven't already. It's a colour that works well on all skin types, fair skin to dark skin.
This is my very first time trying out the NYX brand and I decided it would only be right to do a little haul to get a good feel of their products.
I bought the NYX products from CherryCulture (an American site) as I don't like buying make up from ebay as you never know whats legit. The total cost for all the items was $29.98 + $13.99 for shipping which when added up works out to be approximately £27, not a bad price for 8 items. The delivery felt like ages but in fact it only took two weeks to arrive (however it took a week before my items were actually dispatched).
NYX Slim Lip Pencil - Coral
NYX Slim Lip Pencil - Fuchsia
NYX Slim Lip Pencil - Rose
NYX Round Lipstick - B52
NYX Round Lipstick - Spell Bound
NYX Matte Lipstick - Sweet Pink
NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss - Rose
NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss - Natural
I haven't had the opportunity to wear any of the items I bought yet but as you can see from the swatches below they are very pigmented which gets a thumbs up from me.
This year I had the opportunity to attend London Fashion Week for the first time for two days and I loved the experience. I met up with Teresa (who I haven't seen since college) and Promise for the first time too.
LFW Day 2 (Saturday)
(Very sheer) Dress - Zara
Bag - Zara
Faux Leather Jacket - H&M
Necklace - Forever 21
Sunglasses - H&M
Rings - H&M
Shoes - Topshop
Lipstick - MAC Rebel
I couldn't find anything to wear so I decided to recycle an outfit I wore a few weeks back ;)
My only full length pic (after I took off my heels lol)
I specifically went to MAC to buy the Russian Red lipstick after it was recently suggested to me as I find that everybody's favourite matte red lipstick Ruby Woo doesn't work well with my skin tone. I've only worn Russian Red once so I can't really say if I like it yet but I keep you updated. I'm sure my search for the 'perfect' matte red lipstick will still continue...
Over Indulgence has been on my make up shopping list for a while and I am glad I bought it as I just love the colour on my lips and I have worn it everyday since buying it last week.
